iPhone App store goes live

appstoreiconApple’s iPhone Apps store has gone live (if you’ve got iTunes, you’ll be able to find  it by going to the main page of the iTunes store and searching for “App Store”. Or try this URL (iTunes only). Except that doesn’t include all of them…

Why is it up now, when the new iPhone 3G isn’t available until tomorrow? Because New Zealand, has the time advantage which means Apple needed to get the store up and running.

To purchase applications (or perhaps even to download them) you need to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, which has now reached 7.7. In an interview with USA Today, Apple’s head honcho Steve Jobs has said there’ll be 500 apps available at launch and that 25 per cent of them will be free.
